“Stone Lion”

Statement

(From the feature-length documentary series “Carpet”)
Director: Ramtin Ruzitalab

In the land of Fars, a carpet does not simply lie upon the ground;
it stretches across the collective memory of its people, the dreams of its women, and the unseen history of countless hands.

Shir Sangi tells the story of threads that extend from the past into the present;
threads woven by women who, with every knot, reshape their world.
The director interlaces two narrative planes in this work:
one, a poetic and story-driven tale of a grandmother and her granddaughter — a dialogue between generations where pattern, color, and memory intertwine;
the other, a documentary layer grounded in interviews with female weavers, experts, and carpet workshops across Fars.

For the director, Shir Sangi is more than a film about carpets;
it is a reflection on the continuity of feminine life — on the quiet, enduring force that sustains history and art.
In this documentary, myth and reality, poetry and labor, memory and future,
interweave to reveal the essence of “Fars Carpets” —
not merely as objects of beauty, but as souls woven from time.
